Policies And Procedures Manual

In October 2015, we made significant and substantive changes to our Policy Manual, and further minor revisions were added in 2016.

The below documents comprise the operating manual of the Northern California Hospital and Institution Committee and consolidate information previously contained in the green pamphlet “Workshop Guidelines for Area Chairpersons”, the yellow pamphlet “Purpose and History of H&I Service Work”, and the previous version of our Pink Pamphlet. The guidelines and policies included are based on our collective years of experience as one of the oldest Ninth Tradition service committees of A.A.

To be broadly useful, yet comprehensive, we have created two manuals. The first pamphlet, subtitled “SECTION ONE”, contains information and position descriptions specific to the local areas and to the Major Institutions Coordinators for conducting training and orientations; it is published in bulk for general distribution. “SECTION TWO”, published separately, contains information and Steering Committee position descriptions for the entire Northern California area, as well as all written policies of this committee; it is published for use by the NorCal Committee and in limited numbers for the local areas.

Our Policy Committee reviews the manuals annually and the most currently approved versions are available on this page; Areas can order new manuals from our Literature Chair.

Please use the links below to view/download PDF versions of sections 1 & 2 of the manual:

  • Section 1 - General Distribution (PDF) for All H&I Volunteers. Replaces the previous version of our Pink Pamphlet. Contains information and position descriptions specific to the local areas.
  • Section 2 - General Committee (PDF) contains information and Steering Committee position descriptions for the entire Northern California area, as well as all written policies of this committee.
